Deus Ex :: Help Center :: Newbie Guide :: Page 2

Training
If this is you first time playing (it should be, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this guide), then it is recommended that you go through the training mission.  The training mission is like the Recruitment Station in System Shock 2 and the Hazard Course in Half-Life, it will teach you all the basic skills that you will need to play Deus Ex.  Load it by clicking on the Training button in the Main Menu.

Doctor Jaime Reyes will guide you through the training center for the first part of your training.  This part will cover operating doors and picking up objects, using security keypads and bypassing them with Multitools, picking locks and using Nanokeys, using Medicalbots and Repairbots, jumping and crouching, swimming, and the use of Hazmat suits.

The second part covers weapon skills and is taught by Agent Gunther Hermann.  This portion of your training will cover the use of Pistols and Rifles, demolition with LAMs and other explosives, and defusing planted mines.  If you manage to hurt yourself in the demolition area, a Medicalbot will be standing by to heal you.

Part three is covert operations as taught by Agent Anna Navarre.  Here you will learn how to sneak about in order to avoid detection and confrontation.  This is a very important skill, so pay close attention.  You will also get a chance to use Thermo-Optic Camo in this training exercise.

You're final test is a room with a water-filled canal down the middle and a security droid patrolling your side of it.  You need to get to the other side of the canal and there are several ways to do so.  How you do it doesn't matter.

Lastly, you will enter a room with holograms.  Step up to each hologram to get a description of what each one is.  You may notice a brick on the South wall that is sticking out a bit, go over and right-click on it to push it into the wall.  A hidden door will open on the North wall with a message for those who find this secret room.  Afterwards, head out the exit at the west end of the room to finish your training.
