Weapons

If you'd prefer to blast your way through the game (which is always fun), you will have access to a huge number of weapons.  While no weapon will require a certain skill level to use, as in System Shock 2, the higher your skill level for a weapon type the better you will be able to use it.

Your weapons skills will make a large difference in things such as range, accuracy, and speed.  For example, an agent who is untrained in heavy weaponry will be able to carry a rocket launcher but will be weighed down, slowing his movement and throwing off his aim.  A master of heavy weapons, however, will be able to use the same weapon as accurately as a sniper rifle and move like he was carrying a pistol.

Your weapons skills fall into five categories: Lo-Tech, Demolition, Heavy Weapons, Pistols, and Rifles.  We will go more into depth with these skills along with all the others in the Skills Guide.

You can also modify your weapons with upgrade modules.  You can usually buy these off of people in the game, but sometimes you find them as well.  Some upgrades increase a weapon's accuracy, reduce recoil, increase clip size and reload time.  Plus you can get targeting-aids, such as scopes and laser sights.  These mods will only have an effect on the weapon you attach them to, and not all mods can be used on all weapons.

When you equip a weapon, your crosshairs will change color depending on what you are currently targeting.  Green indicates an ally, red an enemy, white is neutral.  When you first aquire a target, your crosshair will be large and start growing smaller.  It is best to wait until it stops, that means that the target has been locked and you are most likely to hit it.

Also be aware of the level of noise your weapon creates as well as the noise made by a target who wasn't killed by the first shot.  If a silent takedown is in order, use a gun with a silencer or a meelee weapon at close range.  The Riot Prod is a weapon you should always hold onto, it's small and makes no sound.  Plus a stunned target cannot run and scream for help.
